Hi Jurriaan:
The data does not reflect the fact that a majority of economists are academics.
It deals with a sub-set and minority of economists employed as economists
(for government, corporations, private think tanks, not-for-profit organizations, etc.)
rather than the majority who are economists who are faculty who teach economics.
For the economists in the former category the data is interesting, for the economists
in the latter category and for economists as a whole it is - at best - highly
misleading. The BLS really screwed up on this one and it's all the more outrageous
because there are many economists employed by the BLS who know better.
