Marx suggests skiping the first chapter, too, if it is difficult to understand. But he does not say we can put it aside. I think it is the key chapter to understand Capital.

In his 'Preface to CAPITAL Volume One', Louis
lthusser wrote: "put the whole of part one aside ...
nd begin your reading with part two: 'The
ransformation of Money into Capital."
On this also see mine: 'A Critique of Part One of
APITAL Volume One: The Value Controversy Revisited',
ESEARCH IN POLITICAL ECONOMY vol. 15, pp. 195-222.

I think someone on this list (Rakesh, perhaps?) made
 a comment once about
Althusser advising people to start reading Capital
 from ch.7. Is this right?
Does anyone have a reference, or even a quote?

Many thanks if you can help me on this.
