For political and theoretical reasons, John Strachey's summary and 
critique of what he calls "the Hobson-Lenin explanation" of the 
necessity of imperialism in The End of Empire (Praeger, 1959) seems 
quite important.

I don't know much about Strachey but what's rather surprising in this 
book is that he seems to make no reference to V/C and the falling 
rate of profit which were at the heart of The Nature of Capitalist 
Crisis. Maybe his abandonment of the core of the previous book is 
explained in Contemporary Capitalism?
